How to Pick a Profitable Niche and Make Money Online with your Blog
There are several key ingredients to successfully make money online with a blog by selling products or using affiliate marketing, and one of them is choosing a profitable niche.
Choosing the right niche for your blog is probably the most important thing you will do as a blogger when you start a blog.
The right niche could make you earn thousands within months while the wrong niche… well, it won’t make you earn a single penny!
HOW DO YOU PICK A PROFITABLE NICHE?
PASSION
First of all, you should blog about something you are passionate about.
If you start a blog in a niche you are not passionate about, just because it’s a profitable one, your readers will notice it and, most importantly, you won’t make money out of it!
Also, blogging about something you love will make the work a lot easier and more enjoyable!

SUB-NICHE
One of the best ways to earn money with a profitable niche is to find a profitable sub-niche!
Why? Because they are more specific and targeted towards a specific audience.
But what is a sub-niche? A sub-niche is a specific niche/category within the main category.
Here are some examples:
MAIN CATEGORY: HEALTH & WELLNESS
NICHE: WEIGHT LOSS
SUB-NICHE: WEIGHT LOSS FOR BUSY MOMS.
The sub-niche “weight loss for busy moms” is a specific niche within the health&wellness category that targets specifically busy moms who want to lose weight after they’ve given birth.
Choosing a sub-niche is a great wait to understand your buyer persona.
In this case, you already know that your buyer persona is moms who want to lose weight. So you can plan your strategy and content specifically for those busy moms who’d like to know ways to lose weight.
Now, here comes the question many aspiring bloggers have: what if I want my blog to have more than one category? Let’s say, for example, a blog about travel, fitness and cooking.
SPECIFIC vs GENERAL
There is, and there will always be, an ongoing debate about this topic. Many bloggers will suggest you find a sub-niche to target a specific audience while others, on the other hand, will suggest you to do whatever the heck you want to do.
What I would suggest you do, is find a way to talk about more things while being still true to your main category, so you won’t be off-topic.
I personally think that any niche can be merged with another niche.
A fitness blog doesn’t necessarily need to be only about workouts, it can also be about health, weight loss, healthy recipes.
Example: there are 3 different categories: travel, fitness and cooking.
Your blog’s main category is Travel, but you would also like to talk about fitness and cooking, right?
So what you could do is talking about fitness and cooking by keeping it related to the travel category!
For example, you could write articles like how to stay fit while travelling, or, best recipes to try when visiting Italy.
In this way, you are expanding your blog while still being true to your main category: travel.
BIG MARKET
Another way to find a profitable niche is to see how big the market is for that specific niche.
You simply need to look if there are opportunities within that niche to make money, for example with affiliate marketing or by selling products.
Once you’ve found a market, search for all the possible ways to earn money and remember: a small, targeted niche doesn’t necessarily equal a small market.
EXPAND
A good niche is also a niche that will give you the possibility of expanding your streams of income like, for example, creating and selling your own products!
LOW COMPETITION
Many bloggers would tell you that the perfect niche is a niche with low competition.
But, to be honest with you, I think that you shouldn’t concern about competition when you start a blog.
The internet is big enough for everyone to be successful and nowadays there is competition everywhere anyway!
